WOW! I have had the pleasure of reviewing a fabulous educational program over the past several weeks. We’ll continue to work on it with my kids, but I wanted to go ahead and put some info out there for you. I know lots of parents are looking for a great program to do over the summer to keep their kids’ skills sharp or to introduce them to things they’ll be learning during the upcoming school year. You really should take a look at Reading Kingdom.
Reading kingdom is a learn to read and write program for kids aged 4-10 years. It will take them to a 3rd grade level by program’s completion and is unlike any other program out there that I have come across or heard of!
Here’s some more info:
Reading Kingdom System Highlights
- It is incredibly fun, entertaining, and easy to use. After a few lessons, children can often use the program completely on their own.
- It is customized for each child’s skill level so the teaching material is matched precisely to a child’s ability. Children do not waste any time learning something they already know or being frustrated by material that is too advanced.
- It places a major emphasis on accurate spelling and accurate writing, including correct punctuation, so children attain proficiency in reading’s sister skill – writing.
- It is designed to minimize error – something that occurs all the time in learning and something which can destroy self-esteem if not kept to a minimum.
- When error does occur, it offers specific techniques to overcome the problem and reach success.
- It offers regular checks of a child’s progress to determine if they are ready to move ahead or if they need to review certain material.
- Each session requires only 15- 30 minutes – so children rapidly progress without ever feeling overwhelmed.
- Another ingenious feature of the Reading Kingdom system is that children never have to learn or memorize the boring, difficult and exception-riddled rules of language. The scientifically designed system teaches the rules implicitly, while children have fun with the material.
The kiddos start out with some keyboard and mouse training. No, it’s not a typing program per se, but they are taught how to quickly find keys on the keyboard, use the shift key, and use the space bar. They are also taught how to effectively use the mouse to use the program. Next, they move on to a skills assessment. This part is crucial because it places EACH individual child into the appropriate place in the program. Yep, it’s customized! This way a child doesn’t have to sit through 20 lessons of things they already know and get bored to tears. Nope, they get fresh, new learning opportunities right on their level!
Lessons are short enough to complete while their interest is still there and they always have the option to move on and do more OR to be done for the session. My kids, ages 4 and 6, often beg to do more! They really love it and consider it more of a fun game than an actual lesson.
My son is starting to tell me what certain words “look” like (“Mom, get Ready starts with an R for ready!”) and my daughter is now able to type capital letters and short sentences, understanding the space between words (which then translates on to paper when we are doing our writing lessons later in the day with another program).
I *love* that the program also teaches sequencing. It teaches choosing left to right when dealing with words and letters. The kids are having a total blast and learning is FUN (not a chore!) After EVER task they are asked to complete, they do it and they IMMEDIATELY correct it or have a little celebration with graphics and sound! The kiddos always know how they are doing.
I guess the only con I see in this program is that I don’t get a hugely detailed report of how the kids are doing. I can see where they are out in the program, the date they started it (and when they completed other parts of the program) and if they need extra help, are performing in the “good” range, very good, or excellent. I can also see what steps are next in the program.
Other than that, I am BEYOND thrilled with the program!

Look what Cindy Crawford has to say about the program:
Subscriptions to Reading Kingdom are $19.99/month with no monthly minimum, or $199.99 if you purchase a 12 month subscription. If you have multiple children using the program, the cost per each additional child in your family is $9.99/month. I can honestly say, I really think it is WORTH IT!
What have you used to help your children to be successful with reading, writing, and typing??
